Onion Bacon Pie

I made this for the first time to bring to a wine tasting gathering. I thought is was a nice dish to compliment the wine and everyone really enjoyed it. It is best served warm.

INGREDIENTS

1 Deep dish Pillsbury Pie Crust

2 TBS Butter/Olive Oil combo

3 small onions (or 2 medium)

5 slices thick cut bacon

1 C sour cream (full fat)

3 large eggs

1 TBS all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

½ tsp caraway seeds plus more for sprinkling on top

1 C Gruyere Cheese

¼ C balsamic vineger

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In large skillet combine the butter/olive oil and heat. Add onions, cook over medium-low heat. After about 15 minutes, add balsamic vinegar. Continue cooking until onions are golden brown and balsamic is reduced. Salt to taste along the way.

In air fryer or oven, cook bacon until crispy and then crumble.

Combine all remaining filling ingredients (except the cheese) in a medium bowl and stir well to combine.

Add onion mixture to filling mixture and stir until combined. Pour the filling into the Pillsbury Pie crust. Sprinkle the cheese and some caraway seeds on top.

Bake for approximately 50 minutes or until top is golden brown and center is firm when pressed in the center.

Serve with your favorite glass of wine. Enjoy!!
